ok i just saw a post about crowley getting upset at that “did it hurt when you fell from heaven” pick up line bc apparently falling really affected him, but it says straight up in the book “Crowley (An Angel who did not so much as Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards) crowley did not give a single fuck
That’s one of the nifty things with Good Omens. Even though it’s told in third person and even addresses the reader directly, Gaiman and Pratchett did an awesome job toying with the ‘unreliable narrator’ idea. True, the Dramatis Personae says that. And later in the text it also says ‘he hadn’t meant to fall, he just hung out with the wrong people’. But there’s something more and more rare in fiction:
One will rarely notice it at the first read-through, so no one should worry.
Crowley deeply, deeply regrets falling. He’s telling himself that he doesn’t mind, and that things are a-ok, but he really regrets it.
Discussion, you say? I’m game.
Personally, I’ve always interpreted the “Saunter Vaguely Downwards” bit as a comment on his personality/morals.
He didn’t Fall by committing some sort of unspeakable act; he didn’t even do it deliberately - he “hung out with the wrong people”. And even though he technically Fell and became a demon, he didn’t really turn evil/malicious or change much as a result of it.
So it was a change in status, yes, and in my personal headcanon the act of Falling itself was rather unpleasant too, but what didn’t change much, at a fundamental level, at least, was who he was (On a more superficial level - and this is going more into speculation/headcanon territory -, I imagine he adopted certain traits/mannerisms to go with the demonic image he either felt he should be striving for or maintained to avoid being seen as weak/too nice by other demons/his superiors Downstairs).
So it’s entirely possible to both have him be not massively changed by the Fall, and have Fall/pre-Fall memories be an unpleasant subject.
so today it snowed for the first time this year and ive naturally been online all day and didnt know so i went to take out the garbage in bare feet and stepped in an inch snow and i just yelled "what the fUCK" and i just heard my neighbour in his backyard go “oh my god she’s outside”
"Cosplay is getting to be more corrupt as it becomes more mainstream. It's becoming more about looking like a Victoria's Secret model and being bullied if you don't. I, for one, am tired of it. Cosplayers are being told, verbally or otherwise, that they need to look a certain way to do what they love. Cosplay is not a beauty contest. Society has done enough harm to the issue of body image. Lets keep it out of the cosplay community."
It amazes and disgusts me that people are still sending Amanda hate for playing a fictional, canon character. I ship Johnlock as much as the next person, but I know it's never gonna happen. Shipping pairings that you know don't have a chance in hell has to come with the acceptance of it.
I think that’s two separate topics. I don’t think the part of fandom that is sad about Johnlock not being canon is the part that ought to be criticized in this case. I think it’s more about the much smaller group of fans who treat actors like non-people and feel justified sending these awful messages. I’d personally rather see more criticism of that attitude rather than focusing on Johnlockers vs Mary fans.
I've been looking through your blog to see if someone has asked this, but I've been curious. How do you see Crowley and Az? Like, some people see them strictly friends and others a couple (of various sorts, romantic asexual couple, sexual, etc) and was just curious if you were willing to share your...head canon, if one must call it that. :3
well the thing is i have something like… multiple headcanons… where i see a lot of different interpretations as true ALL AT ONCE because i just tuck away several universes of the same characters in my head hoho
platonic bros best friends
romantic asexual couple who cuddle and stuff
partners who totally.. have the sex
and my favorite…. the most important figures in each other’s lives who revolve around each other for eternity and there isn’t really anything solidly established about what they are to each other but you can tell just by looking that they have a really big something going on there
Imagine being a kid in school. Your teacher comes up with an idea for class picture. Every student will draw pictures of their friends.
Everyone starts drawing enthusiasticly, and can’t wait to see what they look like in the drawings. When pictures are ready you notice that popular students have more pictures than rest, but nobody has done a drawing of you. The teacher notices that too, and asks if someone would do your picture. To your horror the class clown takes the job, and comes up with a caricature of you. Others are laughing, but you’re not. You feel awful. The teacher notices that. and asks again someone to do a drawing of you. One of the ‘good students’ starts drawing, but the result is forced. It’s just a drawing of a generic child wearing a shirt of same color as you a wearing. There’s no spirit, no soul in it. You start sensing that the class is geting frustrated with you. They want to be done with this. You ask quietly the teacher if you could do a drawing yourself.
After school your classmates confront you. Why did you have to make such a big deal out of it? The first picture was funny. The second picture was just fine! The drawing you did yourself wasn’t right, do you think you are that good-looking? There were other kids who got only one or two pictures of themselves. Who are you to demand special treatment? Maybe there would have been a picture of you if you weren’t such annoying baby, nobody likes you anyway, and nobody’s going to if you keep on being like that, you don’t deserve a drawing!
This could be story of bullying, but it’s also about how I see portraying LGBTQ+-people and PoC in mainstream entertainment.
